What growth factors can do

Growth factors are proteins that our bodies naturally produce. Their job is to send instructions to cells: when to divide, when to renew, when to start building new collagen and elastin networks. They act as tiny messengers, binding to a receptor on the cell's surface and triggering a whole cascade of events inside it. In the skin, two players matter most: epidermal growth factor (EGF), which governs the renewal of the skin's outer layers, and fibroblast growth factor (FGF), which works on fibroblasts — cells deep in the dermis that produce collagen and elastin.
