Anxiety is a condition that most of us know all too well. It comes quietly, unobtrusively – tension in the chest, an overloaded mind, a feeling that “something is not right”. We often go around in circles: stress → anxiety → fatigue → more stress. The good news? Even from the outermost circle there is a way out. And it doesn’t have to be anything spectacular. Sometimes all it takes is to return to yourself, to your body, to the everyday little things that can change our inner state.
In the spirit of a holistic approach, the key is to connect the mind, body and the environment in which we live. When we take care of all three areas, anxiety gradually loses its power.
First the body: Breathing to bring you back to the present
When we are stressed, we breathe short and shallowly. The body starts to think that it is in danger, and anxiety goes into full swing. Changing your breath is the fastest way to “calm the system”.
Small ritual: 3 minutes of peace
Close your eyes.
- Breathe in through your nose for a count of 4.
- Hold for a count of 2.
- Long breath out through your mouth for a count of 6.

- Repeat three times – often this is all it takes to relax your body and slow down your mind.
The power of small daily rituals
A ritual is more than a habit. It’s an anchor. Something that regularly reminds us that we are in control, that we are in our place, that we are at home in our own bodies.
Inspiration for small daily rituals:
A morning cup of tea drunk slowly and consciously - An evening facial or body massage as a way to release tension
- A short stretch after waking up
- A moment of silence without your phone – just you and your thoughts
- A journal entry: “What am I carrying today? and What can I let go of? What makes me happy. What am I grateful for.”
- Size doesn’t matter. Regularity does.
The Mind Needs Gentleness, Not Pressure
Anxiety often gets worse when we try to “not think about it.” But suppression creates even more pressure. A gentler approach is to observe our thoughts from a distance, as if they were clouds in the sky.
Try this:
Anxiety comes → name it: “Now I feel tense. Now I feel scared.”
- Suddenly it loses some of its power.
- Stop fighting it – instead breathe and accept.

The mind calms down when we stop punishing it for being afraid.
Self-care is not a luxury. It is prevention.
In a holistic approach, self-care is not just a face mask. It is a way of telling our body: “You are safe, you can slow down.”
- Examples of functional self-care:
A warm bath to reboot the nervous system - Natural scents and aromatherapy to reduce tension
- Conscious skin care as a meditation in motion
- A slower pace of the day at least once a week
- Sleep as a priority, not as a reward
- zThe more you give your body a sense of security, the less space anxiety has.
An environment that heals
The nervous system responds to the space we live in. Soft lights, a tidy space, natural materials or a few favorite objects can create inner and outer harmony.
Tip: Choose a corner of your home and make it a “calm zone”.
All you need is a pillow, a candle, a book or a scented mist. A place where your breathing automatically starts to slow down.
How to get out of the vicious circle of anxiety
It’s not one big step that will save everything.
It's the little things we do every day that build stability in our bodies:
regular sleep - conscious movement
- small rituals
- breathing exercises
- gentle self-care
- nature
- conscious rest without regrets
Anxiety won't disappear in an instant, but it can be quieted down enough to stop controlling our lives.
